Statement by the Arab Liberal Federation (ALF) & the Arab Youth Union for Freedom and Democracy (AYUFD), Marrakech, Morocco, March 07, 2019

The General Assembly of the Arab Liberal Federation (ALF) and the Arab Youth Union for Freedom and Democracy (AYUFD) met on Thursday March 07, 2019 during its regular sessions in parallel with the conference on women's empowerment in cooperation with the Africa Liberal Network in the presence of strategic partners, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), and VVD International.

A number of Arab issues have been discussed, In light of this, both the Arab Liberal Federation (ALF) and the Arab Youth Union for Freedom and Democracy (AYUFD) affirm the following:

First, emphasize adherence to the principles of freedom and democracy for which the federation was established, based on the principles of joint Arab action, taking into account the supreme interests of the Arab nation, and trying to find suitable solutions to the demands of our people.

Second, stress that the Palestinian cause is the issue of the first Arabs, and Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, emphasizing the importance of ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and advancing a political process based on justice to achieve the two-state solution, and cessation of all forms of normalization with the Israeli occupier.

Thirdly, with reference to what is happening these days in Yemen, Algeria and Sudan, where it was stressed the need for an immediate end to the ongoing war in Yemen, the right of peoples to self-determination and their right to peaceful demonstration and freedom of expression.

Fourth, affirm its steadfast positions in the fight against terrorism and intellectual extremism and supports the steps adopted by the Arab Republic of Egypt in eradicating terrorism in Sinai. The federation appreciates the achievements of the Egyptian leadership achieved on the economic reform program.

Fifth, congratulate the Arab Lebanese people on the formation of their government headed by Future Movement party leader, which has assigned four ministerial portfolios to Lebanese women, headed by the Ministry of the Interior as the first post held by a woman in the Arab world. The federation also stresses the importance of the orientations of the Lebanese liberal parties to the sovereignty of the state according to a comprehensive national vision, so that the decision of peace and war in the hands of the state, and the legitimate forces is only of the state.

Sixth, emphasize the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, including the Moroccan Sahara, and support Morocco's proposal for autonomy, which has been widely accepted by the international community, leading to a peaceful, political and permanent solution under the auspices of the United Nations.

Seventh, congratulate Arab women on the occasion of March 8 and stresses the importance of its pioneering role and the need to assume high leadership positions in the Arab world.

Eighth, appreciate the role of Arab youth in building their societies, in light of the challenges facing them, especially education, unemployment and economic pressures, stressing the necessity of empowering the youth politically and economically and providing a decent life for them to meet their aspirations.
